Former Secretary of State Dr Madeline Albright spoke in the PMU ballroom this evening. The talk was sponsored by The College of Engineering as part of their National Engineers Week celebrations. The title of her speech was Globalizing the World's Technology Supply. The talk primarily focused on issues associated with the rapid technical advancement of South Asia in general and China and India in particular. Dr Albright readily admitted that she had very little technical expertise, but stuck to areas she understood well such as competition for natural resources and the need for more science education. She was very good about preventing herself from getting drawn off topic, yet still managed to lighten things up with the occasional interesting story of life in the land of the diplomats. charles darwin has a posse To those of you just joining us from the livejournal feed: welcome. I am Dan Noland, mild mannered computer hacker in West Lafayette, Indiana. I have other aliases on the network of course.

This weekend was quite busy. I was pleased to have dinner with my lovely and talented girlfriend, Sara with no 'h', on Friday after work. We skipped the Mardi Gras rush and waited until the first Friday of Lent to eat at the Cajun Connection.

On Saturday I attended Darwin Day on the IUPUI campus. The event was hosted by the Indiana branch of The Center for Inquiry. It featured a number of interesting speakers from Indiana Universities, Government, and Civil Liberties groups. There was even a debate between an Intelligent Design proponent and Scott Hartman who in addition to being a paleontologist is also an artist. Listening to so many lectures was not dissimilar to being back at University. Photos here

image not found This weekend was eventful. On Friday evening we ate Korean and started some seedlings for our garden (including various spicy peppers and herbs). Sara's birthday was Saturday. We did yard work in the morning because it was a beautiful day. In the evening we had dinner at Sarge Oak and afterwards drinks and desert at Eight West.

Sunday was spent cleaning up around the house. That pesky second law of thermodynamics keeps me busy all the time. Showalter came over and talked for a while. We watched a few episodes of Gargoyles.

On Monday Brad and I received a our shipment of computer parts. As a result we fiddled with computers most of the evening while Sara watched Swingers for the first time.

Dear Livejournal Users, I am sorry I spammed your friends list with my entries. There was a bug in my rss generation code, and I thought livejournal was smart enough to interpret the old entries correctly. It was not. My bad.
