Courtesy of the brilliant mind of Chris I bring you The
DSM-IV drinking game.
Step One: Acquire a copy of the Diagnostic and
Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition
(DSM-IV).
Step Two: Open the book to a random page and read aloud the disorder
name as well as its essential features.
Step Three: Everyone who believes that the disorder just read
applies to at least one of their ex-girlfriends or ex-boyfriends must
drink. Everyone who believes that the disorder applies to their most
recent ex-girlfriend or ex-boyfriend must take an additional
drink.
Step Four: Pass the DSM-IV to the next player and repeat until
all players are suffering from either 291.1
or 291.8.

Over the very fine Labor Day weekend there was a noder
gathering
here in West Lafayette. Apatrix
& Gwenllian
were our very generous and gracious hosts. They provided more
boozeahol and snackyfood than even a dozen noders could consume and
that is no mean feat.
The majority of the remaining LAWG
members were, of course, in attendance. We showed the out of towners
around Vons Shops and visited Global
Fest as well as Wolf Park.
A good time was had by all, even if
we poor aging noders aren't up to partying all four days of a long
weekend. Be sure to inspect the photographic evidence
of the event.

Why didn't someone tell me about magnetic soap holders earlier? How is it that Europeans have had this for years without my knowledge? I demand explanations!

The Baha Peninsula Mexican Restaurant in the Purdue village burned down
recently. I could find absolutely no coverage of this on either the Journal and Courier or the Purdue Exponent. I took some pictures if
anyone is interested.
Update: WLFI has coverage here.

Just so we are all on the same page: it is time to break out the brainburn guy once again.

Bug squashed. Enlightenment achieved. Understanding of the system
is complete. Your automaton moves on its own and does your
bidding. Hackers live for these moments. We understand Doctor
Frankenstein. Its alive! Its alive!

OK, so maybe I was lying about the brain burn man.
I went to donate blood with my lovely girlfriend Sara this
afternoon. It is important for those in the greater Lafayette area to
note that the Red Cross is no
longer on Union Street by the Laundromat. It is now located on Elmood
Avenue in Market Square shopping center. They have this new procedure
at the blood bank.
Double Red Cell Donation: This procedure involves drawing the blood into an apheresis instrument which separates the blood into different portions by centrifugation. Two units of red blood cells are collected instead of one, while the plasma, platelets, along with enough saline solution to restore the volume of red cells lost is returned to the donor via the same vein. |
My Type O brethren need to get in on this action, 'cause it is good for everyone.
Donors end up making one trip to the blood bank instead of two. The donation itself is almost twice as useful. The $50 to $60 spent doing viral safety testing on the blood sample is only done once. The two units from the donation are kept together in storage since most patients who need the cells get at least two units anyway. Patients benefit by being exposed to a lower number of donors. It's a big advantage to the patient, the Blood Bank, and the donor. |

Lots of coding this weekend. I took Sunday off to go to Chicago with Sara, Brad, and Amanda. We had lunch at Dues; Chicago style pizza is a special treat. We had some time to kill so we made a detour to the John G. Shedd Aquarium to see the fishes. We then drove to the UIC campus for the Alkaline Trio show.

This weekend was very eventful. On Saturday we had the Orkin man come and poison our
carpenter ants. Our Orkin man is named Jim and he is a stand up
guy. We like him.
After a healthy dose of insecticide Sara and I went to the Feast of the Hunters'
Moon. I have lived in Lafayette for eight years now and I have
never been to this annual event. I was fairly non-plused. Watching the
fife and drum guys or the cannon crews was interesting, but certainly
not worth the 12 USD price of admission. Other than that the place
resembled the vendors room at a Sci-Fi con only with flint lock
pistols instead of plastic ray guns.
Saturday evening Sara, John, and I went to the sixth
annual Delta Lambda Phi Drag Show at
Purdue. A good time was had by all.
