Wow I am really failing to keep this log up to date. Note to self: try harder. This past weekend was the great annual Noland All-Hallows Eve party. As usual it was quite a bacchanal. This was the first year that the party had the benefit of my new and improved salary, which allowed me to provide my guests with more and better booze, food, and decorations. The gags and costumes were as always in very poor taste. Several people did not feel so well the next day and we required a steam vac to restore the carpet. All in all the party was a rousing success. As can be seen in the photo to the left road flares make excellent sources of illumination for jack-o-lanterns.
Last weekend I had the pleasure of visiting with Sara's family in Chicagoland. We celebrated Jenny's birthday at Ron of Japan. Sara had a dentist's appointment. I was introduced to Sweet Tomatoes. Brad and Castor joined us for a Chicago Blackhawks game as well. I had never been to a Hockey game before and the game is actually much more enjoyable in person than it is on the television. Something strange was going on that night because not only did the Blackhawks win, but the bears won a game and the White Sox won the second game in their World Series sweep. Three Chicago teams won on the same night. I would say the safe money is on an apocalypse sometime soon.
Things at work are speeding up. I am working with Fortran of all things. Expect more updates soon.

Last night my lovely girlfriend Sara with no 'h' and I attended a charity dinner for NAMI. More specifically it was a effort to raise money for an anti-stigma media campaign in the Lafayette area. It was organized by the West-Central Indiana Chapter of NAMI (their website should launch soon). I had an opportunity to meet several of Sara's co-workers and clients. They are nice folks one and all.

My research report for work got finished and sent out on Veterans
Day. This most recent weekend was good for me. Sara and I managed to
rake the leaves, tidy up the house, clean the gutters, and install the
dish washer that her parents gave to us. I undertook all this at a
pretty leisurely pace considering I was still recovering from the
extreme document writing from late last week.
As some of you already know this webpage is now hosted on the spiffy
new computer in the hurricane electric
colocation facility in California. This means faster page loads for
any readers I might have out there. Propers to the Earthtribe CoOp for getting
everything set up and running smoothly.
Brad and Chris are gone
to San Francisco with flowers in their hair this week. I am beginning a
new project at work. This one should not last long, but will likely be
very controversial within the company.
The discovery channel had some difficulty getting my copy of Mythbusters
season one delivered. However, now that it is here I have been
watching episodes in rapid succession. Coinciding with the arrival of this
excellent skeptical show is the official launch of the Indiana Skeptics website. I
finally finished it with input from the skeptics list and some fellow
skeptics from Indianapolis.

The weekend of the 19th was both John's birthday and Amber's house
warming. This presented something of a problem as I wanted to attend
both. In the end I decided to take John out to dinner on the 18th and
attend Amber's house warming on the 19th. Sara and I drove John around
town to see a movie and then treated him to dinner at Red
Lobster. Amber's house warming the following day was good if a
little awkward. A small number of her friends, myself included, were vastly
outnumbered by her family members. It felt somewhat like crashing a
family reunion. None the less I was glad to see her again and visit
her new home. I suppose this means that she will be in the area for a
while.
Later last week we had something of a tripple date at the new Harry
Potter flick. The couples were Paul &
Carrie; Castor & Melissa; as well as the lovely Sara with
no 'h' and myself. I was more or less pleased with the movie,
although if you have not read the book you have little to no hope of
following the plot of the movie.
The time crunch continues at work, but that is to be expected. Late
Wednesday night I returned to A-town under cover of
darkness. There I spent some quality time with the family and consumed
copious amounts of turkey. Robin has painted her room quite red and
is bowling at a frighteningly high level. As usual I helped my
paternal grandparents set up their Christmas decorations. My maternal
grandmother is concerned about losing her driving license when her
vision test comes up in the near future.
On Friday I scurried up to Wilmette, IL to visit Sara's family. The
lake effect snow did not manage to kill me on the way up and so I got
to spend time with Sara, Katie, Jenny, Kathy, and both Charlies. I got
to take in several new Chicagoland experiences. Kafein is an excellent coffee shop
in Evanston, very similar to the Abbey in Castelton for those who's
memories run that far back. I also attended D's birthday party at Exit , a very respectable punk bar
(is that an oxymoron?).
Now I have returned safely to Lafayette. However, I am flying to
D.C. for Arxan's board meeting at
o'dark thirty tomorrow. I was out there this time last year for an
interview with (nfr), but I never
had a chance to see the mall or the museums. Hopefully I will be able
to rectify that situation this time around.
