Two weeks in 187 words:

On Saturday 2007-03-24 my lovely and talented girlfriend Sara hosted a party for her friends and co-workers from the Kinzig Lab. On Sunday we joined Josette for a trip to the giant library book sale in Williamsport. We also saw the Williamsport Falls.

This more recent weekend involved feeding rats, gardening, and a trip to Chicago. Terry and Mary Ann joined us this time around. On Sunday we drove up early and had lunch at Ed Debevicks. After a bit of shopping on Michigan Avenue we made haste to the United Center to watch the Blackhawks defeat the Oilers. Inspired by the victory we proceeded to Pops for Champagne for... well for California sparkling wine technically. We had a bottle of the Taittinger's Domaine Carneros Vintage Brut. The year escapes me at the moment. We called my sister April and she joined us for a glass of sparkling wine and dinner. Dinner took place just down the road at the ever popular Pizzeria Due. Exhausted we filled up on coffee and hippie food before dropping April off with some extra pizza and returning to The Hoosier State.

I have done quite a bit recently. On Thursday I attended Dr Genevieve Bell's talk entitled, "Just like Magic: Anthropological Accounts of Wireless Technology." I think anthropologists should have their research funded if for no other reason than because they tell fascinating stories.

As you already know Sara, Mary Ann, Jarred, went dancing on Friday when Bill Nye made an appearance. Sara's Lab mate Mariah actually danced with the science super star.

On Saturday we wanted to attend Bill Nye's talk, but were short tickets. Fortunately we managed to scam some off of folks that had extras. The talk was good. I was glad to see a large number of kids at the talk. Bill Nye is a great science educator.

On Sunday we woke up extra early and visited my family in A-town. Sara got to see the Church where I grew up. We grilled some food and a good time was had by all.

Last night Brad, Sara, and I attempted to cook Dal Makhani. It was a worthy attempt for a first pass, but as always stepwise refinement wins the race.

Wednesday Sara and I went to see Katie's show at Open★Source Art. The show, entitled Heterotopias, examines issues of place and memory. It includes not only Katie's work, but also the work of two other young artists, Annie Creswell and Heath Schultz. I encourage anyone who has the opportunity to go see the show.

While in Champaign-Urbana we also took a some time to check out the campus because I had not been since the ACM conference in 2001. We had dinner at The Flat Top Grill which has a very good spicy sauce for stir fry. This, of course, necessitated walking off dinner so we strolled around campus and found LED Throwies stuck to a sculptural piece on campus. After our walk I decided that I needed hot chocolate for the drive home. A quick stop at Moonstruck Chocolate Cafe yielded a fine Mexican Hot Chocolate for the road.

Fire Juggling + Long Exposure Time = Awesome

Also, the folks at the IBRC symposium are thinking hard about what makes some of us fat and some of us skinny.
